While the two-tone treatment is shocking, it's also reminiscent of a much, much older Rolex watch and one never produced at the consumer level: The Deep Sea Special. I would say my answer will be nuanced: Only in Rolex, 2-tone speaks to me not least because they seem to represent great value because of the stainless steel craze (apart from the GMT Master Rootbeer). For everything else, I would go solid gold (or other precious metal). Two tone is a way for Rolex to extract a little more msrp out of the customer for the same watch. I have always liked the two tone submariner but imo it is a very 90s look. Most people don't hate two tone watches. The tens of millions sold should make that obvious. If there were any truth to this at all, you would see them sitting around collecting dust in Rolex display cases.There's a reason two tone is cheaper on the second hand market. It's ugly, and there was never a demand until all the other watches became completely unobtainable. I get you're all trying to kid yourselves that your watches are beautiful, but it's just kool aid.
