Kick around a few ideas with friends, gauge public opinion and make a list of possible inscriptions before you drop your watch off at the engravers. Yes it is possible to remove the engraving if it's not too deep. An experienced watchmaker will be able to tell you if they can remove it. I recently had Bob Ridley remove an engraving that was shallow and it turned out great.Most Z-serial Rolex watches do not have the inner bezel engraving. D and F serials overlap and either could have it, just as the Z and M overlap with the rehaut on the Stainless steel models. All the 116400 Milgauss have the engraved rehaut. How hard would it be to remove the engravings on the clasp?. It’s a brand new bracelet and I don’t really wear it as I wear the watch on leather. Am I better selling it as is or attempt to get the engraving removed?.
You or a jeweler could polish the part down to the point of removing the engraving. You could also replace the part the engraving is located. To remove an engraving, a jeweler has to laser the metal at the area of the engraving, blasting it to level out the texture of the metal. Once this is done, the jeweler polishes the item and restores it to a smooth, blank surface. Anything is possible. On a gold-filled case, you'd probably want to de-plate the caseback, solder-fill the engraving, file it all down smooth, and replate. Lot of work though.
